Police are searching for a man who robbed a Wells Fargo branch in Raleigh on Monday afternoon.

The man passed a note demanding money to a teller at the Wells Fargo branch at 3500 W. Millbrook Road at about 12:30 p.m., police said. The note implied that he had a weapon, but no weapon was displayed.

The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robber is described as black, about 35 to 40 years old, about 6 feet 3 inches tall and 250 pounds. He was wearing a plain white T-shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and a dark-colored baseball cap and had thick, black-framed glasses and some facial hair.

Anyone who believes he or she might know the identity of the robber or who might have other information about the robbery is asked to call Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 919-834-HELP.

More crime in Raleigh!

When asked "Why do you rob banks"? Dillinger replied "'cause That is where the money is".

I really like the Coastal Federal Credit Union approach. The large branch in Morrisville uses ATM-like machines to allow you to interact with the tellers. While I appreciate the "human touch" of being able to talk directly to my teller, I also appreciate that a building like this makes it virtually impossible for a bank robber to commit robbery. That said, I support arming bank tellers and patrons alike; people would think twice about doing this if they know their victims may be armed.

They should make banks here like in Europe, Bullet proof glass and drawers, no contact with tellers except through mic. They also have a drop down steel curtain, should someone even try. Pretty much takes the fear out of being a bank teller.

Wait. Bank robbery is a federal crime. Why are Raleigh Police searching for him?
