Motorcyclist killed in crash near Smithfield

Smithfield, N.C. — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday when he lost control on Interstate 95 about one mile south of Smithfield, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Hubert "Hester" Alford, 52, of Wendell, was driving northbound when he lost control, overcorrected and flipped over around 7 p.m. He was thrown from his motorcycle.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The wreck report cited erratic, careless and reckless driving as possible factors in the crash.

I just heard about this last night... Bird truly was an amazing person. He was terrifically caring and helpful to people. I was honored to know him and the motorcycling world is diminished by his loss. Condolences to his family and friends.

Bird was one of the kindess people out there and I know everyone that was riding alone side of him when this happened. He was not cutting up at all. This is a sad lose for all of his biker family and his family. Please show respect to his family in your post. Thank you to the nice comments from all others,God Bless!

the news report says that the wreck report stated it was erratic and careless...wral went off what was told/showed to them..
