print friendly

Fourteen people were injured Wednesday morning when a Durham Area Transit Authority bus and a Durham Housing Authority van collided, police said.

The DATA bus was westbound on Pettigrew Street and the van was northbound on Blackwell Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. when the crash occurred, police said.

Paramedics took the van's driver and two other people to a nearby hospital for treatment, and 11 other people took private vehicles to the hospital, police said. None of the injuries were serious.

Both drivers were cited for running a red light, police said.

Unfortunate. Being a transit driver myself for many years i would say yes there are bus drivers who make bad decisions behind the wheel just like the general population, but i would have to say that most transit drivers take there job very seriously and are professionals who take pride in what they do. There is not a day at work that i dont PREVENT and accident with someone who who is either distracted, impatient, inconsiderate or just who is totally absorbed in themselves that they dont consider anyone elses ( or there own) safety. A little courtesy on the highways would go a long way !

Oh boy a DHA van? Here comes the lawsuits...

and I agree with raldude...ha!

The comment left by FX432 has made my day. I can't stop laughing.

I wonder if anyone jumped onto either vehicle AFTER the wreck in order to be part of the future claims? I watched it happen on a 20/20 news magazine report, where a fake wreck was staged on an inner city street. The hidden cameras caught all sorts of folks climbing into the bus, then claiming injuries when the police arrived. Anything for a buck I guess.

Necks, backs and wings injured everywhere
