Fort Bragg, N.C. — A paratrooper with Fort Bragg's 82nd Airborne Division was killed Monday in a firefight in Afghanistan, a military spokeswoman said Tuesday.
Spc. Jarrod A. Lallier, 20, of Spokane, Wash., was as an Infantryman with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
He joined the Army in July 2010 and was first deployed to Afghanistan four months later.
"Spc. Lallier was a quiet professional. He impressed people with his deeds, not words," Bravo Company Capt. Michael Kelvington said in a statement.
"Never shying away from a challenge, his performance during operations over the past few months in combat has been everything that I could ask from a daring paratrooper. His example and love for his brothers will be deeply missed."

God Bless this Soldier and his family! ziggy71
As a veteran myself it is important and I will tell you why. During Viet Nam soldiers ranks were changed so when the deaths got reported it sounded better, sad but true. Would you rather read Private SECOND CLASS or Private FIRST CLASS. Words matter and so does accuracy. I'm not taking anything from my brothers service and my heart breaks for his family and friends and comrades. But if the media wants to honor him, they need to have some continuity in the reporting.
