State regulators have approved Cape Fear Valley Health System's plans for a 65-bed hospital north of Fayetteville, officials said Tuesday.

The hospital would adjoin the health system's 6-year-old Health Pavilion North complex, near the Ramsey Street interchange of Interstate 295. The complex already offers cancer treatment, physical and occupational therapy, urgent care and laboratory and imaging services.

“We are very excited about bringing the first new civilian hospital to Cumberland County in more than 50 years,” Cape Fear Valley Health Chief Executive Mike Nagowski said in a statement.

Officials didn't disclose a timetable for building the new hospital, which will include 57 inpatient beds, eight intensive care beds, seven observation beds, a 20-bed emergency department, two operating rooms and laboratory and imaging services.

Why the State has any say so in the existence of a new hospital or not amazes me. Government intrusion is a huge part of the reason there is out of control cost increases in medical care. Until we get Government completely out of health care, the costs will just continue to rapidly increase.
