A Fort Bragg soldier died Friday after insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, the military announced Sunday.

Sgt. Nicholas C. Fredsti, 30, of San Diego, served as team leader with the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

Fredsti was on patrol in the town of Spedar when he was wounded in an insurgent attack. He was medically evacuated and later died of his injuries.

Since 2000, when Fredsti joined the Army, he deployed three times to Afghanistan and three times to Iraq.

He was promoted posthumously to staff sergeant and awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the NATO Medal.

He is survived by his parents, Carl and Sherry Fredsti, of San Diego.

GET OUT OF AFGHANISTAN. Stop killing them, and stop our troops from dying for NO victory. Obama has NO vision of winning, just getting out and leaving a corrupt government who will be sharing power with the very people we are currently killing.

Since Obama took office, more US troops have been killed in his first 3 years than in Bush's 7 years, including the invasion and overthrow; and Obama has spent more money in those 3 years than in Bush's 7 years. Obama killed Osama in 'friendly' Pakistan, so declare victory and get out. What are we doing there? Let's get out!

"In 2009, Vice President Joe Biden warned him that the military rationale for doing so was flawed... in planning the drawdown of troops two years later, the White House intentionally sidelined the CIA. Obama purposely did not read a grim CIA assessment of Afghanistan that found little measurable benefit from the 30,000 "surge" forces Obama eventually approved..." AP story of June 25, 2012

He didn't volunteer for those deployments. He was infantry since 2000...and thats just how it is. They are deployed for a year and home for a year if even that. He was a great friend and soldier. He will definitly be missed by all those who knew him.

Thank you Sgt. Fredsti for giving your life fighting our nation's enemies. You are a true American hero.

Cest - "Three tours to Iraq & three tours to Afghanistan? This is ridiculous." He may have volunteered for some of those tours. One never knows.

Praying for those who loved him and those who served with him.

TIME TO BRING THEM ALL HOME. WE CANNOT WIN A WAR WHERE THE ALLY AND THE ENEMY LOOK ALIKE. BRING THEM ALL HOME NOW!!!
