Speeding helped cause a wreck in Chatham County Friday evening that seriously injured four people, state troopers said.

Troopers said that Chelsea Cooper, 19, of Pittsboro, over-corrected after running off Lyastra Road, between Jack Bennett and Sam Jones roads. Her vehicle then went off the other side of the road and struck a tree.

Cooper and her passengers – Elizabeth Brown, 41, Katie Barnes, 16, and Jason Barnes, 14, all of Pittsboro – were all taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

On Sunday, Cooper remained in critical condition and Brown in fair condition at UNC Hospitals.

Troopers said they believe that Cooper was driving well above the 45-mph speed limit. Charges could be filed against her.

I hope everyone will be okay

So 19 years old, speeding, running off the road, and over-correcting. Sad for all.

A website has been created to help with the medical expenses for Chelsea Cooper at http://www.bothbrains.net/chelsea/.

Any contribution would be greatly appreciated no matter how small to help out her family during this difficult time. Thank you for your contribution and God bless!
