Police find vehicles stolen from Fort Bragg

Fayetteville, N.C. — A Fayetteville man was arrested Thursday on charges he stole at least three vehicles from Fort Bragg.

Inspectors from the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles' License and Theft Bureau used a tracking device inside a Jeep to identify Zachary Rush, 24, of Brookshire Road, as their suspect. They found the 2009 Jeep Wrangler, along with a 2005 Dodge Power Wagon, a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle and three 2008 Polaris all-terrain vehicles and a generator at Rush's house.

He faces charges of felony possession of stolen vehicles, felony possession of stolen property and misdemeanor possession of altered vehicle identification numbers. 

Inspectors found three trailers and a Honda motorcycle with altered VINs on Rush's property as well. They estimated the total value of the stolen property at more than $100,000.

Rush was being held Friday in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond.

nccrew- How do you figure he profits??? THEY FOUND THE STOLEN MERCHENDISE, which means it was taken back from him, and, will be returned to the rightful owners or insurance companies if claims have already been paid. He does not get any money for them. That means, he has not profited. AND, he will only get his bond money back if he pays the bond, if he uses a bondsman, he will forfeit the money he pays as a fee to the bailbondsman.

Bond is also not determined by how much a crime was. Bond is set using a rate table that the magistrates have. they evaluate many different fators. Bond is not supposed to be punitive, it is supposed to ensure that you show up in court, it is the court that determines punishment.

(bare with me because I realize his stolen stuff was seized)

$100k worth of stolen stuff....$40k bond....means $60k worth of profit. Crime does pay after all!

Then when you realize he stands to get his bond money back after he pleas all of this to misdemeanors he will have hypothetically still profited $100k. Amazing!

Did he really think none of these vehicles had tracking devices?
