Teen partially impaled by fence in Moore County crash

Southern Pines, N.C. — A 17-year-old girl was partially impaled by a fence when she crashed on Youngs Road outside of Southern Pines Thursday morning, according to the state Highway Patrol.

The teen, whose name was not released, drove off the road, went through the fence and struck a tree, troopers said. A piece of the split rail fence went through the driver's side door and struck the girl in the side.

She was flown by helicopter to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Her condition was not released.

Trooper C.A. Smith said her injuries were serious, but not life-threatening. He said she was very lucky to be alive.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation. No other vehicles were involved.

Glass Half Full: This post is to clarify something said about semi-conscious not being a medical term. As an ER nurse we use the term often and it is an accurate descrition. The Stedman's medical dictionary has it meaning "[...]a state of drowsiness and inaction, in which more than ordinary stimulation may be required to evoke a response, and the response may be delayed or incomplete"

Well now Deb1003, if you had continued reading you would see that I made a mistake and confused 2 articles, AND posted my 'oops post'.

for ALL who don't read all---I CONFUSED MY STORIES ALRIGHT? THIS GIRL FORTUNATELY IS NOT DEAD. But the 'bickering' part still stands. geeze.

Hoping the young girl is going to be ok. And yes, it could happen to any of us.

I know its hard to do but its better to hit an animal than to risk hurting yourself or someone else. I hate hitting animals on the road but its better to be safe. I hope the young lady has a speedy recovery.

From another site....the girl swerved to avoid hitting a dog, overcorrected, lost control, went through a fence and hit a tree. This could happen to any of us. Prayers to her for a speedy recovery.
