Death of Spring Lake toddler investigated

Spring Lake, N.C. — Cumberland County deputies said Monday that they are investigating the death of a 16-month old Spring Lake boy.

The toddler’s body was found inside a home at 2716 Edwards Ave., Spring Lake at about 9:30 a.m. The initial dispatch call indicated a child was found unconscious in a bathtub and wasn't breathing, but authorities wouldn't confirm that information, saying only that a child was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, authorities said.

A deputy said an adult was home at the time, but he didn't say whether the person was the boy's parent.

No other details have been released.

Spring Lake PD has NOT lost their powers again, the area that the death occured in is OUTSIDE the city limits andtherefore under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff's Office.
