Durham man charged in missing woman's death

print friendly

Police charged a Durham man with murder Friday after a body believed to be that of a missing woman was discovered in Falls Lake Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said they believe the remains, found near Redwood Road, are those of Mayra Mejia-Romero, of 507 E. Club Blvd. in Durham, who disappeared May 21.

Marcos Antonio Martinez, 32, also of 507 E. Club Blvd., was already in jail on charges stemming from a May 24 arrest related to identity theft.

Police did not say how the two knew one another or how Meija-Romero died.

She was last seen in a 1998 gray, four-door Honda Accord with North Carolina plates, police said.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440, extension 29322, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

No profiling please. After all there is no reason to.

It clearly states that this is the women missing from Durham so why are you all still spectulating as to who it is?

Mayra I tried so hard to help find you hun:( Rest in Peace Amiga.

Agree with halfpint. They wouldn't turn it over to DPD if it was a missing case from Fayetteville.

It's an open case in the city of Durham though...not Fayetteville. I doubt it is the missing soldier.
