BENSON, N.C. — A woman was stabbed several times in the neck Tuesday evening during a T-ball game at Meadow Elementary School outside of Benson, according to the Johnston County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to WakeMed. Her boyfriend, Kendall Basker, 23, was arrested at the scene, authorities said. The couple has three children together.

Witnesses tell WRAL News that parents rushed the children playing T-ball to safety when the assault started. No children were hurt.

Several other parents wrestled Basker to the ground and held him until authorities arrived.

Witnesses said he was armed with what appeared to be an ordinary kitchen knife.

Basker has previous convictions for assault on a female and violating a protective order, according to state Division of Adult Correction records. He is currently listed as a probation absconder on the division's website.
