Fayetteville, N.C. — Fayetteville police arrested two men who they say tried to rob a driver early Monday.

When the driver stopped for a man who flagged him down on Filter Plant Drive around 2 a.m., another man carrying a shotgun approached the vehicle, police said. The driver sped away and flagged down a police officer. Shortly after, police stopped four people walking along Bragg Boulevard who matched the suspects' description.

Police said they arrested two men in connection with the robbery – Stevie Michael Reed and Deshawn Demarco McNair – and served a third, Victor Flavien Ancelin, with outstanding warrants. They released the fourth person, who wasn't involved in the robbery.

McNair, 20, of the 700 block of Lakeland Street, and Reed, 18, of the 1400 block of Thelbert Drive, were both charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy. McNair was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and given a $315,000 secured bond, while Reed got a $265,000 bond.

Ancelin, 16, of the 200 block of Scott Avenue, was charged with conspiracy and two counts each of felony breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods and larceny after breaking and entering. He was given a $22,000 secured bond.

McNair was convicted of two felony break-in charges last January and put on probation, according to state Division of Correction records.
