A Cary teen who is accused of stealing beer, soda and champagne from three garages last week made it easy for investigators to catch him.

He left his cellphone behind.

On May 17, a homeowner at 125 Ethans Glen Court found his phone inside the garage.

When police called the number listed for "Mom," the woman said the phone belonged to her son, 18-year-old Tyler Karl Chupp.

Chupp admitted to burglarizing the garage at 125 Ethans Glen Court on May 16. He said he broke in and stole two six-packs of beer.

Police suspect him in two other burglaries that night – one at 115 Ethans Glen Court and another at 117 Cumberland Green Court.

Multiple cases of beer, soda and champagne, as well as cash and a cooler were taken from the garages, the search warrant states.

Investigators seized beer, champagne, wine, liquor, drug paraphernalia, miscellaneous pills, a comfort bag and a cooler from Chupp's home, at 112 Halpen Drive.

He faces felony breaking and entering, misdemeanor larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear charges.

I love how some of you post that it is the "parents" fault. How many of you actually have teenage kids? If you say that you know their every move then you need some serious help!

You all are really rough on his parents... I think at 16 years old you better know that stealing is wrong, so I don't see why all the blame seems to go on his mom. This case sounds petty and I hope he'll learn from it. Glad he was caught.

'Perhaps cutting his fingers off will correct the problem here.'

Or create another, larger problem.

katgotyertongue Please don't be insulting to people who have ADD or ADHD! It makes me wonder why you would make such a statement.... but I wont go there!

If you have been listening to the Jason Williford trial you will notice similarities in this young man and Williford. Jason started out doing the same thing, robbing for his habit. Williford's parents sought help for him, yet he CHOSE to continue his bad behavior.- HLSCH

Ok...ONE similarity...robbing...and maybe for a habit...but did he keep a cucumber on the nightstand...
