print friendly

A Fayetteville man was killed Tuesday when he lost control of his moped and crashed on Bingham Drive, police said.

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Police said Harold Underwood, 53, was heading south on Bingham Drive around 5:45 p.m. when part of his moped struck the curb, causing him to lose control. Underwood was ejected from the moped and struck a street sign, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Underwood was wearing a helmet and was traveling about 25 to 35 mph when he crashed, police said.

"Wow. When your number is UP, it's UP. Poor old guy. not my real name"

Old guy at fifty three??????????

Just like seat belts, a helmet is not always going to save your life. Sometimes using a seat belt is what causes death. Maybe WRAL will report on the actual cause of death after the autopsy.

Wonder what made him strike the curb?? Glad he was wearing a helmet or that would seem the blame. Just an accidental death, I reckon.

Sad...

Wow. When your number is UP, it's UP. Poor old guy.
