A school bus snagged power lines outside Parkwood Baptist Church in Durham Monday afternoon, sending sparks flying and the children on board back to school.

A witness reported hearing two loud explosions as the bus passed.

Police said a transformer snapped, but no one was hurt. Power lines were down across Emerald Circle.

The children were helped off the bus and walked back to nearby Parkwood Elementary School.

An important point though is also the standards and monitoring that DPS has for it's bus drivers. My kids don't ride the bus, but I have had to call in many times this year alone where bus drivers were making terrible driving decisions putting children at risk. This may not be one of those examples, but something should be done to protect the kids.

It's their facebook account, and they'd like to leave the office by 5pm.

What's even better is the Parkwood Elementary school is hiding this. They're deleting posts to the school's facebook wall and blocking posters who ask questions or repost these pictures. They're actively attempting to hide this from parents.

We are not spending enough for smaller school buses that won't snag power lines.

Those kids were too close to those lines. At that age they act on impulse. What would have happened if they ran into them or grabbed them??? What is wrong with adults today? I would have put those kids inside of a building asap.
