Raleigh, N.C. — Raleigh residents have two new, big incentives to recycle and a longer list of acceptable items for the green bin.
On Wednesday, Mayor Nancy McFarlane announced the next phase of the "Recycle and Win" campaign, which makes residents eligible for Harris Teeter gift cards. A "prize patrol" will select ten winners at random when they spot the "Give it Back" sticker on their recycling bin.
The city is in the process of upgrading all residences from 18 gallon green bins over to 95 gallon roll carts to accommodate more recycled materials. It has also added additional types of plastic containers, telephone books, colored paper and spiral paper cans to the list of acceptable recyclables.

-If recycling is a good thing and worthy of practicing why do we have to pay for it?
Well if it all ended up in the trash you would still have to pay for the collection service. (which would require just as many trucks being the volume would not change)
-Recycling is a joke and most of the items collected have no value in making products and in many cases are more harmful
Such as?
-Instead of making products from new resources.
Where do we get “new resources?” Can you grow aluminum? Is using more oil to make plastic such a good idea when gas is already expensive?
-Recycling is something that government does to get more of your money and to make some people feel good but other than aluminum cans (which you could sell for money instead of giving them to the city government....)
No one is stopping you from selling your own cans.
-everything else is just trash.
Oh okay….except they use that “trash” over again instead of strip mining.
