Two paratroopers stationed at Fort Bragg were killed Sunday in a blast from an improvised explosive device Afghanistan, a Fort Bragg spokeswoman said Tuesday.

First Lt. Jonathan Walsh, 28, was killed when the explosive hit his vehicle in southern Ghazni province. Pfc. Michael Metcalf, 22, who was wounded in that blast, died a short time later.

Both men were assigned to the 8nd Airborne Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team.

Walsh, an infantry platoon leader with 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, is survived by his wife and son, Debbra and Austin Walsh, of Raeford, and his parents, Paul and Carolyn Walsh of Kennesaw, Ga. He joined the Army in March 2010 and was assigned to Fort Bragg in August.

Metcalf, an infantryman serving in Walsh's platoon, was also assigned to Fort Bragg in August after enlisting in March. He is survived by his parents, Ceejay and Kim Metcalf, of Boynton Beach, Fla.

May they rest in peace at last.

RIP brave warriors. How many more have to die before it is realized that Afghanistan is a waste.

Very sorry for the families of these young men. May you rest in peace. May God bless our nation and get these men and women home to their families.

Bless both of them, and please, please let our leaders wake up and bring our troops home. Two more years won't make any different.

Those poor families.
