Fayetteville police officers investigating a reported shooting Sunday afternoon shot at one of the alleged victims as he reached for an object and fled from them.

Police said they received a report that someone had fired at an occupied vehicle along McArthur Road, and officers went to the College Lakes neighborhood to talk to possible suspects.

While they were in the 400 block of Shoreline Drive, police said, a silver vehicle belonging to the alleged victims drove by, and officers got information that they had weapons in the vehicle. Officers said they approached the silver vehicle and started to speak with the driver, but one man jumped out of the car and ran, and the driver started to pull away.

As officers ordered him to stop, the driver started to reach for an item and kept on, police said. Officer Robert Ferguson, 43, fired at the vehicle as it left. No one was injured.

Police found the vehicle soon after and arrested the driver.

Antontio Spearman, 24, was charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing a law enforcement officer, and Devonte Lock, 19, was charged with driving with a revoked license and resisting, delaying and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

Police said they expect to file additional charges against the two.

Ferguson, who joined the department in 2008, was placed on administrative duty while the shooting is investigated. That follows standard procedure.

Spearman has five previous convictions, including drug charges, burglary, larceny and unauthorized use of motor conveyance, according to state Division of Adult Correction records. He has served one four-month jail sentence.

I guess the family that has been charged with the 12 robberies are your upstanding citizens, right? LMAO!!!!! Maybe the FayPD should have shot @ them also. Would that have been ok? 3014

@SouthernGirlJD wher does it say he should have shot them? Where are the assault charges? How can an officer shoot @ a suspect & the suspect not be charged with assualt? So what they were running, get the tag #! Y shoot & have the bullet richochet & his an innocent bystander. I guess that would be the black victim's fault & not the FayPd fault also right? I wish the tables was turned, see how u all would feel then. You would be going crazy if they shot @ a white kid.

Not saying the suspects weren't wrong but the FayPD were wrong for shooting @ unarmed SUSPECTS (NO MATTER WHAT RACE THEY ARE!!!!) 1424

brwneyez70..would you reach for something when an officer is standing at your vehicle?!? Put yourself in Fay PD's shoes..

@brwneyes70, I strongly agree w/ ICURCRK. Its obvious that these 2 aren't respectful upstanding citizens.

so what do YOU consider a respectful upstanding citizen? Looks like the the Fay PD was DOING HIS JOB!

1st of all the system is designed to put peep in for a short time so they can come back. I don't agree with it at all. I also don't agree with peep (no matter what race or sex thaey are) who break the law constantly & get slapped on the wrist. Regardless of what they do, it don't give the FayPD open season on them either! Let a white get harrassed by a black police & see how quick they get fired, but it don't work when it's the other way around. Act as though racism isn't alive & strong in this country if you want! Especially in the South!!!! FayPd is known for harassing non-white individuals. If those guy's were reaching for a gun, the officer's should hv defended themselves, but where was the weapon? Why wasn't they charged with assault on a gov official if they were threatened enough to pull a weapon & shoot?

Thanks greywolf30 for correcting me.... Officer didn't do his job according what was reported! 0911
