Courts-martial in soldier's death set for Bragg

print friendly

The XVIII Airborne Corps said Thursday that Fort Bragg will serve as the venue for all courts-martial trials related to investigations into the death of Pvt. Danny Chen, who was found dead in Afghanistan last October after being harassed and beaten.

Eight soldiers have been charged in Chen's death.

Fort Bragg commander Lt. Gen. Frank G. Helmick on Tuesday approved Maj. Gen. James Huggins' request for the change in venue. Huggins is the 82nd Airborne Division commander and current commander of Combined Joint Task Force-82 in Afghanistan, which oversaw Chen's unit during its deployment.

Chen was assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division, based out of Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
