Drive-by shooting at Rocky Mount park injures two

print friendly

A drive-by shooting at a Rocky Mount park injured a 37-year-old man and a teenager Sunday evening, hours before a separate shooting killed two men.

Witnesses told police that several men in a car on West End Street opened fire as they drove by Buck Leonard Park, 929 S. Grace St., around 6:15 p.m. Bullets struck Keith Bagley, 37, and Hilbert Bain, 16, both of Rocky Mount.

Bain's injuries were minor, and Bagley was recovering from non-life-threatening wounds at Nash General Hospital, police said.

Investigators described the car as an older-model, four-door, black Honda Accord. It was last seen heading toward Raleigh Road.

Police said they are still trying to figure out the motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made.

About five hours later, Randy Levon Elliott and Gregory Demon Freeman, both 22 and from Rocky Mount, were shot and killed while sitting in a car outside Elliott's house at 808 Pender St.

Police are searching for a white Honda, possibly a two-door Civic with factory hubcaps, seen leaving the area at the time of the shooting. Investigators haven't made an arrest or determined a motive.

Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call Rocky Mount police at 252-972-972-1411, Capt. Laura Fahnestock at 252-972-1681 or Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that solve crimes.

Got friends who bought rental property there. They tell me it's a nice place to live. I don't think they read the news much.

Rocky Mount,city on the demise.

Can't wait to get a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Rocky Mount for my X-Box 360...

Honestly this is sad. And this place was going downhill long before Hurricane Floyd. Floyd just weeded out alot of good people and replaced them with scum. A recent article labeled Rocky Mount the 55th most dangerous city in the US and only has a population under 60,000. That should tell you something right there.

I had a business in RM. (HAD) About once a week I would come to the store to open up just to find either theft of a trailer or rims and tires. Golf cart stolen. Fence cut and ruined. I was either getting robbed by high taxes, electric bills, certain other business leaders or the everyday "PARASITE". I hate I lost my business, but I thank GOD I got the hell out of there. I WILL NEVER GO BACK.

if you still live in Rocky Mount, i just have one question... WHY? melton's bbq is closed. you are more likely to get shot at golden east than to find a good bargain. lot of racism and unemployment. RM could not handle the collapse of the tobacco markets in Eastern NC. Greenville adapted and the Univ and the hospital are now able to draw folks from all over the eastern part of the state. RBC gone. RM is very dangerous for a small town. I lived there in the early 80's and there already were huge problems with the segregated city vs county schools.
