An area teacher accused of plotting to behead three witnesses from a terrorism trial was released from jail Wednesday and will await her trial at her parent's home in Raleigh, according to court documents.

Nevine Aly Elshiekh, 46, of Raleigh, posted a $1 million bond on Monday after her family and friends offered three properties on Emerald Isle and one in Durham as collateral.

Elshiekh was one of two people arrested in January after an FBI sting in which Hysen Sherifi allegedly tried to have three witnesses in his federal terrorism trial last fall killed.

Sherifi, 27, was sentenced in January to 45 years in prison for plotting to attack the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico, Va., as well as targets overseas.

Court records show that an informant accepted a $5,000 payment and then provided fake photos appearing to show a beheaded corpse confirming that he had killed a witness.

Defense attorneys say Elshiekh was a pawn in the alleged murder plot, noting she was just a courier who passed along information from Sherifi and never knew that he wanted people beheaded.

If convicted of trying to kill witnesses, she could be sentenced to prison for life.

so who's the people and friends that offered their property up for the bail?

To me this is as bad a crime as molesting our children? Its time NC start screening all employees for drugs and mental issues.

"Bad, bad move, she should of never been released. Rebelyell55"

The only purpose of bail or bond is to deter one from flight. If the court determined that she is not a flight risk than bail or bond is perfectly proper. piene2

Piene - I think you might have missed the point that Rebel was trying to make. I am pretty sure that most people know what bail or bond is and why it is used, but thanks for the lesson!

Unbelievable! I don't know what else to say.
