Durham, N.C. — Durham police were searching Monday for the driver of an SUV who caused a three-car wreck at South Driver Street and Angier Avenue that critically injured two people.

A 2012 black Ford Edge traveling north on Driver Street ran a red light at a high speed and struck a Suzuki traveling east on Angier Avenue around 1:30 p.m., police said. The impact of that crash caused the Suzuki to collide with a Cadillac traveling west on Angier Avenue. 

The Cadillac crashed into a building at the corner of the intersection.

Police said the driver of the Edge, which was a rental car with New Jersey license plates, fled the scene on foot. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to his arrest.

He is described as a black man in his early 20s, standing about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing 145 to 160 pounds and wearing his hair in dreadlocks, police said. 

The drivers of the two other cars were both hospitalized with critical injuries. Their names were not released.

Initial reports stated that one person was killed, but police later said there were no fatalities.
