GARNER, N.C. — The Red Cross provided shelter Saturday night for more than 20 people after a fire swept through a building at the Byran Woods Apartments in Garner.

Firefighters said the blaze began outside of 915 Bryan Place and damaged four apartments. While firefighters clean up, all 16 units – home to 18 adults and six children – are inaccessible, Garner Fire Department spokesman Tim Herman said.

He expected most of those displaced would be able to return home on Sunday.

Ray and Z Parrott told WRAL News that their apartment was among the units with the most damage. They said they lost everything and had no insurance.

The Wake County fire marshal was investigating what started the fire.
