An Alderman Road Elementary School student was hit Tuesday morning at a school bus stop, authorities said.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Research Drive and Summerfield Lane at about 6:50 a.m., authorities said. The student, whose name and age weren't released, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The student was hit by the passenger-side mirror of a 2009 Chevrolet car as it passed a stopped school bus, authorities said. The driver, April Heath Hinson, of Wade, was charged with failure to stop for a school bus and failure to reduce speed to avoid collision with a pedestrian.

How close was the child standing next to the road? Was any adults around? I do hope the child will be OK.

how many times does this or similar incidents have to happen before steps are taken to make people cautious around school busses. She should lose her liscense for a year and get a few hundred hours community service cleaning school busses.

What was she doing that she didnt see the BIG YELLOW BUS WITH FLASHING LIGHTS?!?! Shes lucky that thats all that happened to the child! I cant stand the way people just careless about stopped school buses and school zones!

It's so hard to see those huge flashing lights on those buses, maybe when you're texting or something equally stupid possibly? Why else would you NOT see it?

Apparently she either doesn't have children of her own or she just doesn't care.
