ENFIELD, N.C. — Police arrested an Enfield woman on Thursday on charges that she abused and burned her baby boy.

The Halifax County Department of Social Services referred a case of suspected child abuse to the Enfield Police Department on Oct. 3, two days after the infant was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment of burns, police said.

The baby was airlifted to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where physicians determined that he had previous bone fractures in addition to second-degree burns, police said.

Tasha Monique Caine was charged with felony child abuse and was being held Friday in the Halifax County jail under a $200,000 bond.
