Fire damages two houses in downtown Raleigh
A two-alarm fire ripped through a house and damaged a neighboring home in downtown Raleigh Thursday morning, authorities said.

The fire started in a one-story duplex at 609 S. Blount St., and flames spread to the house next door before firefighters arrived around 8:30 a.m., according to the incident report. About 50 firefighters labored for over an hour to bring the blaze under control.
No one was injured.
Authorities said the home where the fire started sustained major structural damage, including a roof collapse. It will likely be a total loss. Both it and the neighboring house were damaged badly enough that people can't leave there.
Four people were made homeless by the fire. The Red Cross was assisting them.
The cause of the fire hasn't yet been determined.
