Lumberton fire captain faces child porn charges

Lumberton, N.C. — A senior fire captain in Lumberton has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography.

Court records show Chad Thomas Evans, 40, was arrested Tuesday on nine felony counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Justice Department spokeswoman Noelle Talley said Evans was arrested by the State Bureau of Investigation's computer crimes unit.

Lumberton's human resources director, James Moore, said Evans has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

Evans has been with the city since January 2000, Moore said, and has a salary of $44,768.

It was not clear if he has an attorney. He is out of jail on a $55,000 bond.

Whatever happened to INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY? We as a society are so quick to just read a headline and condemn the person as guilty. I guess no one in the SBI ever made a mistake. How many of you neigh-sayers happen to have a picture of one of your kids taking a bath as a baby? You may be a child pornographer. I guess Greg Taylor spent all that time in prison because he was guilty. My whole point is just because someone is charged with a crime, it doesn't make them guilty.

Doctors,lawyers, school teachers, bus boys, cooks, police, any and all job titles from every walk of life has its bad people, druggies,crooks,perv's so on . i dont care if this guy is a "fire" capt. or not a job does not mean the person walks the straight and narrow. Haven said this why is there a single person speaking up for this guy in this forum? let him have his day in court and be judged there. btw a little warning for those of you who feel better then anyone else. don't open that e-mail , or look at that text on your cell phone from unknown because receive a child porn picture and you can be charges with felony called free txting.
