The former manager of a license plate agency in Siler City has pleaded guilty to allowing people without driver's licenses to gain titles to vehicles, authorities said Wednesday.

Margaret Tarkenton pleaded guilty on Sept. 13 to four misdemeanor registration violations and was placed on probation for a year. She also must perform 120 hours of community service and pay about $200 in restitution to the state Division of Motor Vehicles.

Following an investigation, the DMV in February shut down the license plate office that Tarkenton had operated for 20 years at 1205 N. 2nd Ave. in Siler City under a state contract.

Chatham County District Attorney Jim Woodall said that Tarkenton was checking boxes on vehicle title paperwork to certify that people had valid driver's licenses when they had no license or an expired license. There was little financial gain in the scheme, Woodall said, noting she likely skirted the rules to attract business to her office.

I bet there was some cash passed to this person

Thanks for your enlightening lecture on what I really meant, irishale.....maybe you missed the "Sarcastic" in 'Sarcastcles.

Hey... no need to explain it to me, I was agreeing with you.

Right on SmokeWagon, welcome to one of the states where common sense doesn't exist in politics but good ole boys do.

"(The point was, since you so obviously missed it, was that illegal immigrants aren't known for having a valid NC driver's license. I hope this explanation helps you understand.) ;)"

Do you need reminding that, for years, NC was a "hotspot" in the country for the ease with which illegals could get a license?

It's amazing that illegals must have LEGAL ID and or LEGAL drivers license as ID to get a title changed (IT's THE LAW)...however they can vote for their Nobama and other entitlement sellers, get welfare, WIC, EBT's, free lunches, schooling, housing and Dr's care without so much as being able to speak english..!!!
