Raleigh police have arrested and charged a woman with murder after they say she intentionally got into a wreck and hit a tree.

Lisa Howard Leak, 40, of Peyton Street in Raleigh, drove off of Chapanoke Road, cut through a grassy area and a parking lot and ran over a soccer goal before slamming into a pine tree on Aug. 12, according to a police accident report.

The vehicle was going at 35 mph but accelerated and hit the tree at 50 mph, the report states.

Passenger Amy Pauline Chukwu, 59, of Peyton Street, was killed, and Leak and the two back-seat passengers Alexia Shamira Mae Wall, 17, and Erica Jeannette Freeman, 39, were injured.

Leak was arrested on Sunday after she was released from WakeMed. In addition to the murder charge, she is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, police said.

Leak was being held without bond at the Wake County jail on Monday.

I doubt they are going to release this info, but guys help me out. How/what lead them to determine the driver intentionally wrecked the car? I thought I saw somewhere that the driver had a medical issue which is what lead family members to believe it was an accident. also unblankenbelievable: when a car is being used to murder someone, the same as a gun, the car becomes a weapon, hence assault with a deadly weapon.

there's no 2nd amendment for cars (or horses).

Hey, unblanken:

We go to the DMV. We get a driver's license. We also carry insurance. How's that for a "car purchasing permit"?

Unless you are saying it's okay to run over people or crash cars to kill people.

A vehicle has always been a deadly weapon

An eye for an eye. Hope she gets whats coming to her!!
