Statement from North Carolina Senator Richard Burr:

"I am hopeful Majority Leader Reid will put political gamesmanship aside so that we can vote on a piece of legislation that will address our debt crisis in a meaningful way.

I am disappointed, but not surprised, that last night Senator Reid once again denied the Senate the opportunity to debate and vote on a bill that could put us on the path to avoid default.

Senate Democrats have continually ignored and stalled options to resolve our current debt crisis by tabling consideration of bills like the House passed bill last night and Cut, Cap, and Balance last week.

While Republicans have drafted plans and accepted compromises, Senate Democrats have blocked every effort to address this nation’s budget, deficit, and debt crises. I am hopeful we will reach a resolution."
