Elizabeth Edwards: John's affair made me throw up

— Elizabeth Edwards writes in a new memoir to be published May 8 that news of her husband's affair made her vomit in a bathroom.

"I cried and screamed, I went to the bathroom and threw up," Edwards, 59, writes in her book, "Resilience."

Edwards, who is terminally ill with cancer, said her husband, John, admitted to the betrayal just days after declaring his run for president in 2006. She said she wanted him to drop out of the race to protect the family from media scrutiny, but stood by his side anyway.

"He should not have run," she wrote.

An advance copy of the book was obtained by the New York Daily News, which reported on it Thursday.

John Edwards went public with the affair in August after the National Enquirer reported he was the father of videographer Rielle Hunter's daughter. He has denied paternity, but his wife of more than 30 years doesn't address the issue in her book.

Edwards writes that Hunter's pickup line was "you are so hot" and that when her husband first confessed, he lied and said he only had sex with Hunter once.

The original confession "left most of the truth out," she writes.

Elizabeth Edwards never identifies Hunter by name. But she says that while her life may be tragic, Hunter's is "pathetic."

John Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, was laying the groundwork for a presidential campaign when he hired Hunter to shoot videos of him. Edwards said the affair with Hunter began and ended that year, although Hunter was seen on the campaign trail until the final days of 2006.

David Drake, the publicity director at Broadway Books, said her book would serve as a sort of sequel to her previous memoir, "Saving Graces," that was first published in 2006 and updated in 2007.

Edwards' initial memoir mostly focused on how she coped with the 1996 death of the couple's son Wade in a car accident at age 16 and her ongoing battle with breast cancer.

Since the affair was announced, Edwards has continued to advocate for health care reform by visiting Congress and making policy speeches.

The Edwardses have three children – Cate, Jack and Emma Claire.

I am coming in on the last part of this blog, but her picture looks lovely. ost of pictures portray her as looking frumy, older that John, and not very attractive. He on the other hand, is a hypocrite of the worst kind. There is no kind of hell to repay him for the hurt, betrayal, and humiliation her has put her through. I can only play she will out live him. Go Elizabeth. WTW.. Elizabeth is Hebrew name, meaning " concecrated to God" . Seems very fitting.

"The Edwardses have three children - Cate, Jack and Emma Claire."

They don't even have the decency to admin to the 4th. It's not the babies fault that her daddy was already married to liz at the time.

"Thank God these people didn't make it to the White House."
Why? Do you think God sent that temptress to seduce him so that we would find out and not vote for him........John should try that line with Elisabeth and see how far it gets him.......

Let's face it....John Edwards was the monarch to be the next vice president of the United States, and really BLEW it when he screwed up his career by having a secret affair with another woman while his devoted wife was receiving treatment for cancer while tossing his political status and his family values in the garbage....
Wow, John! You had the the vice-presidency in the palm of your hands and your political career and you tossed it in the garbage, along with your marriage.

When she gets on her soap box about health care in America, it infuriates me. Her husband made his money sueing doctors and driving up the cost of health care for all of us. It is her business if she is staying with him, especially as a terminally ill mother with young children. But she should have refused to support him when he ran for President and must be equally as power hungry as he is. I'm sorry she has cancer. She portrays John as the other woman's victim. She has misplaced her anger and that other woman & child will probably end up living in her nice house one day.

Why is she still with him?

    Take him to the cleaners!!!

I have as much respect for her as I do Hillary when she stayed with Bill.
