The jet went down in a residential area and at least one house was on fire, CNN reported late Saturday afternoon.

Witness Scott Houston told CNN in a telephone interview that he saw six Blue Angels jets flying low behind a grove of trees at the end of an airshow in Beaufort, S.C. Only five emerged, Houston said.

A cloud of smoke was seen rising from the area where the plane is believed to have crashed, witnesses at the scene told CNN.

The Beaufort County coroner’s office confirmed one fatality late Saturday afternoon, but did not say who was killed.

The air show was at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort.
