Obama inauguration logoInauguration 2009
The WRAL News team was in Washington, D.C., for the inauguration of President Obama. In addition to regular coverage on WRAL-TV, they blogged about the crowds, sights and sounds during this historic event.

Buses rolling toward historic inauguration

The bus convoy to the nation’s capital is rolling. We’re actually going to drive through the Martin Luther King parade route.

People are waving and shouting encouragement to the buses as we pass. The enormity of this event is felt by everyone we’ve spoken to. How fitting for us to pass the MLK parade on our way to watch the fruits of his labor – the Obama inauguration. It’s emotional for everyone on this bus.

On a good day, his trip should take about four hours. We are prepared for it to take as many as eight. There are rumors of 75-mile back-ups on I-95. I hope we don’t see that, but if we do, I’m sure this group of folks will make the best of it.

I can picture my late mother and her sisters making this trip if she were alive. She’s looking down on all of us, proud of what this country has achieved.
