— A man has been charged in connection with the robberies of a Raleigh bank and convenience store.

Steven Michael Abbott, 22, was arrested around noon Thursday at 4500-24 Manor Village Way, after a Raleigh police officer noticed a vehicle in the parking lot matching one used in the crimes, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

The BB&T Bank branch at 4409 Creedmoor Road was robbed around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Around the same time Wednesday morning, a man robbed the Rite Aid store at 3432 Edwards Mill Road, less than two miles from the bank..

Abbott is charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, and he was being held in the Wake County jail Thursday evening.

I've seen banks overseas that when a robber demands money, the teller pushes a button and bullet proof glass slides up instantly leaving the robber scratching his head.
