Missing Tarboro teen located in S.C.

Posted June 10, 2011

— A 13-year-old Tarboro girl who went missing last week with a 20-year-old family friend has been located in South Carolina, police said Friday.

Tarboro police say Leonardo Velasquez Frias checked Nancy Ramirez out of Martin Middle School, possibly by using her brother's identification card, on June 2.

Police said family members think Frias and the teen developed a romantic relationship while he lived with her family in Princeville for the past eight months.

Tarboro police said the two were found in Columbia, S.C. Ramirez was taken into protective custody until local authorities could pick her up.

Frias was awaiting extradition back to North Carolina.

Although Ramirez was not forced to leave with Frias, an arrest warrant charging him with abduction was issued because of her age.

I am just glad that she is still alive, but it makes it hard for others if there daughter comes up missing, because the police will think that she is just a run-away. This is sad and was unnecessary. How could you put your family through this?

I'm glad she was found...but I can't believe the school let her go with him without calling her parents to double check. Even when I was a senior and had a note for so I could leave early to go to the doctor the secretary would still call my mom to double check. She would double check for everyone.

Allowing male or female family/friends/acquaintances to move in with you and your spouses or children of any age is asking for trouble. Ask the pharmacist about that Rx. First Citizens will tell you that you can take it to the bank.
You will serve them better by paying for a couple of nites at a hotel or motel and after let them fend the best they know how. That money is nothing compaared to the head ache or heart ache of having someone do something like this!1

Yes, she will be in trouble big time, but so much better than the other possible outcomes. Glad she is OK.
