Hometown Hello: June 6-10: Lake towns

This 900-acre lake in Translyvania County is named after the Cherokee word for "redbird." It's an affluent resort community with an excellent golf course.

This 5-mile-long, natural lake in Columbus County was named for an Indian tribe in 1911. Before that, it was called Flemington.

This beautiful mountain lake on the Broad River is famed as the setting for the movie "Dirty Dancing." It is nestled neck to Chimney Rock in western Rutherford County. A resort was formed there in 1927.

This 250-acre lake sits at 2,584 feet above sea level. It has a Cherokee name and rests on the Methodist assembly grounds in central Haywood County.

This lake sits on the western shore of Stumpy Point Bay and is near a bombing range. It's south of Manteo on U.S. Highway 264 in Dare County.
