Artsplosure takes over downtown Raleigh
Organizers hope 80,000 people will stroll through sculptures, art exhibits and concerts this weekend during downtown Raleigh's annual Artsplosure festival.
Posted — UpdatedA giant, inflatable sculpture that nearly covers City Plaza is one of the highlights of the festival. Up to 80 people at a time can wander through the 10,000-square-foot labyrinth of pods, domes and tunnels constructed of translucent vinyl.
The sculpture called Amococo is by England's Architects of Air.
Master barbers with Wahl will also be giving free facial hair trims and grooming advice. For each trim, they'll make a donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
More than 170 artists from across the United States will show and sell their works around Moore Square. Art work by 120 middle and high schools students will be on display in the Zanzibar Room of Marbles Kids Museum.
Blues, jazz, soul, folk and rock groups will be playing on two stages throughout the festival.
The 32nd annual Artsplosure runs 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, with the music going until 10 p.m., and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, except for $5 to enter the Amococo sculpture.
