I had the time of my life working with Greg one summer at WRAL as his intern. I grew up as a child watching him, and remembered when he gradually started coming up to replace Bob Debardeleden. Greg always had a way of explaining the weather on air that made it seem so simple and understandable.

I knew Greg went to Penn State and that helped influence my decision to go there as a school and study the weather like he did. When I came back to North Carolina for one summer to do work right down the street at NC State, I applied to work at WRAL and Greg hired me! It was like a dream come true.

I worked many nights with him that summer, and I will never forget the one night we had a tornado warning come in on the printer, and I ripped it off and took it to him while he was out there on the air, and we were able to get the people their information right away. I slept good that night.

I tried making a tape and taking the same route Greg did, but I have to hand it to him, that's some hard work to come up with exactly the right thing to say for exactly the right amount of time without having a teleprompter. Much props to Greg for doing a difficult job so well for so long.
