Elf
This southern Clay County town lies on Chatuge Lake, close to the Georgia line. It's just off U.S. Highway 64, near Hayesville.
Fig
This town is elevated 2,880 feet above sea level in west-central Ashe County. It's near the New River and West Jefferson.
Few
This southern Durham County name was once called Oyama, but residents decided to change its name after the Japanese attack on Pearl Habor. It's now named after the first president of Duke University.
Ivy
The namesake of this Madison County, at 2,150 above sea level, is the obvious choice: It's the plant. The town is near Mars Hill.
Aho
Community leaders couldn't think of a name for this southern Watauga County town, so they decided the name would be first word spoken after a long period of silence. An old man finally stretched and said “Aho.”
This river community is near Boone.
