— Authorities were searching Wednesday for a man who fled from his vehicle during a traffic stop in Wendell.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Gordon said Lamonte Smith, 24, of 1213 Raleigh Blvd. in Raleigh, left his 4-year-old son and a 2-year-old girl in the back of his car when he fled authorities after being pulled over on U.S. Highway 64 Business at Rolesville Road.

Gordon said the vehicle was pulled over for having expired tags. Smith, who did not have a driver's license with him, fled when the trooper went back to the patrol vehicle to run his information.

Smith is an absconder from probation with past convictions of larceny and shoplifting.

Another fine upstanding citizen repeatedly put back on the streets by our outstanding judicial system.

Below is a link to his record as an absconder. The Police are doing their jobs, many times incorrect paperwork and licensing can lead to the capture of someone who may be more dangerous. Why blame them, he does need to Man up, grow up. If he is able to father a child he has responsibilities to meet. The responsibility lies with him!

WTVD - "Troopers say Smith has outstanding warrants and remain on the run." What Mr. Lamonte Smith should have done is to MAN-UP and resolve his outstanding warrants First and then be a productive law-abiding citizen would do - get a job and pay all the fees required by law so that he can drive with his children in the car LEGALLY. Don't try to sugar-coat Mr. Smith's CRIMINAL conduct.

Bozo/ I agree with you. A father and a dad are two different things. This man was a father. It takes someone that cares to be a mom or day.
