— Police are investigating after a woman's body was found in the Lawrence Street area of Fuquay-Varina on Tuesday.

Authorities said someone working in the area found the body in a ditch and called police around 10:30 a.m.

Police are waiting to release the identity of the woman until a family member can positively identify her.

Tommy Davis told WRAL News that the body has been identified as his first cousin Sandra Holland Thomas, who lived in the area.

"She lost her way for a little bit and was in rehab. She was going to church and she found the Lord just in time, I guess, because she's probably in heaven somewhere," Davis said.

Police called the death suspicious, but not commented further. An autopsy is pending.

"Her death shouldn't go in vain," Davis said. "You've got to do something positive in the wake of her death to make her name, her legacy go on."

Beverly Marshall, who lives near where the body was found, went to the crime scene after police left on Tuesday afternoon. She said it’s a safe and quiet area and hopes police quickly solve the case.

"We allow our kids to come out and play, and we don’t have anything bad happen on this street," she said.

"look at the evidence presented - I would say beyond a reasonable doubt AT THIS POINT he is GUILTY !"

What trial are you watching? There has not been one solid piece of evidence submitted. Just a bunch of speculation.

“Not surprised, that is the worst section of Fuquay aside from the flea market area.” - WRALgolo2.1

Yep. I generally don’t drive through this area. I’ve seen a lot of gang-banger looking dudes out walking their pit bulls. They hang out on the corners and such.

"I'm sure somehow they will find a way to pin this one on Brad Cooper too....oh wait, this is Fuquay PD not Cary PD. Maybe justice will be served." Seriously. What kind of comment is that. There is a dead woman and you stoop to that level. But deastwood have you been at the trial at all - look at the evidence presented - I would say beyond a reasonable doubt AT THIS POINT he is GUILTY !

There has been no report of what happened to the woman. There is a possibility that she may not have been murdered.

Evergence: Fuquay is a wonderful town. I agree. Although I do not live there, I do work nearby, and I love it. A refreshing departure from some other areas I've seen. Do you know what else I love? Having something better to do during the day than comment on random local news stories posted to a tv news website.

And yet you took the time to post this. Nice.

well Eduardo.. perhaps instead of reading bloggers you should try to find source information that doesn't teach you to call human beings "illegals" A google search of President Obama on crime results in legislation he worked on as a Senator and policy positions he takes now. I did look for dubya and all I found was loud mouths calling him names or President Obama names. I didn't care enough to keep the search up, but, I'm sure it's out there, it's just not as much fun as being angry at each other so it doesn't get coverage.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HEARD A STATE LEGISLATOR, CONGRESSMAN, PRESIDENT, SAYING THAT CRIME IN OUR COUNTRY WAS A NATIONAL PRIORITY, RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. I PAY LOTS OF TIME ON POLITICS ALL PARTIES: DEMOCRAT, REPUBLICAN, TEA, GREEN ETC, AND NEVER HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT CRIME BEING A PRIORITY & CERTAINLY NOT A TOP PRIORITY. BUT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS OUTSIDE OF OUR BORDERS AND WE ARE RUNNING TO SEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, MILITARY AID, MEDICAL SUPPORT, FOOD, ETC

HOW ABOUT CLEANING OUR OWN HOUSE BEFORE GOING OVER TO OUR NEIGHBORS TO CLEAN UP THEIRS

CRIME ~ UNEMPLOYMENT ~ ILLEGALS ~ HOME FORECLOSURES ~ EMPTY FOOD BANKS ~ SENIOR CITIZEN HELP ~ AND SO ON, SHOULD BE OUR PRIORITIES. JUST LOOK AT THE STATS IN THE 10 WORST CITIES: WASH DC, DETROIT, CLEVELAND, CINCINNATI, TOLEDO, TULSA, BUFFALO, OAKLAND, BALTIMORE, PHILADELPHIA. NO COUNTRY IN THE WORLD HAS AS MUCH CRIME AS THESE 10 CITIES COMBINED. WOW!!

Hey, I have an idea! Let's revitalize "the intersection of Railroad st/Wake Chapel Rd all the way to Wagstaff Rd"! And let's make sure it's too expensive for the "bad" people to live in! Oh wait. That's already happening!

No disrespect to the woman who's passed on, but come on, people! Personally, I care more about the white collar criminals (real estate whores) who are gentrifying our neighborhoods under the guise that they need to be made safer & prettier (and using incidents -- like what happened today -- as their excuse to do it). For who? For them, of course! And for all of you who are blind enough (and, perhaps, well-off enough in this racist, classist system) to follow.

Just remember: When the SHTF, you will not be immune. Blissful ignorance or not. "Only fools have sold you; you can't avoid impact."

Mobilize, people! Don't let 'em take our neighborhoods or communities! Don't get sidetracked by this sensationalistic bs. Get up, stand up!
