NEWPORT, N.C. — The pelican blown to Canada by the winds of Hurricane Earl arrived at  the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter in Newport Wednesday morning.

Ralph, a brown pelican named for the strip club in Halifax where he came to rest in September, completed his international road trip and will begin recuperation in North Carolina.

Officials from the Hope for Wildlife Society in Seaforth, Nova Scotia, cared for the bird after he was found dehydrated and emaciated on the roof of a club called Ralph's Place.

They returned Ralph to the  Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter so he can gain strength and re-acclimate to others of his species.
