— Wake County authorities took a man into custody after a nearly five-hour standoff at a mobile home in Fuquay-Varina early Monday.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the home at 2820 Green Clover Drive late Sunday. Upon arrival, they said Bryant Mims, 43, was inside the home.

Deputies were concerned Mims was holding a woman hostage but soon realized he was alone.

“We tried several times to talk him out and then we had to put the tear gas in. Once the tear gas was in, he came out with his hands up. (He) did not give us any trouble whatsoever,” Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

No one was injured.

Mims was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia and resisting a law enforcement officer.

He was being held under a $25,000 bond in the Wake County jail on Monday.

Deputies said Mims has previously been accused of domestic violence.

Well for everyone who thinks the cops just knocked on the door and then decided to have a standoff that's not what happened. He shot 6 shots around midnight, that's enough right there to make the cops come. What if he did have a hostage like was believed. When the cops arrived to knock on the door this man waived a gun out of the window and told them to get back...So they were trying to get him out of the house. He wouldn't come out and the police were only doing there job trying to make sure everyone was safe...So for those of you who think the police were trying to be bad guys that is not true. I know everything that happened because I was right next door when all this happened. And this wasn't a trailerpark it happened right on a main road.

meBNme, what the bashers think is that this is an honest taxpayer sitting at home and the evil police randomly selected him to go to jail. The truth is this person has dozens of felony convictions (check the DOC web page) many of which are violent, involve firearms, and previous charges of Intent To Kill. That is the kind of people the police bashers blindly side with instead of understanding what is actually happening. If the police brought him candy and flowers they would whine about it.

"So if they knocked on my door and I didn't answer I could be charged and taken to jail. If I were napping and didn't respond could they be charged with disturbing the peace and tresspassing onto private property?

Wow, scary. Hope I hear them if they knock on my door! If I were taking a nap then tear gas through the windows and off to jail I go? The guy was in his own home, alone!

Goodness - he is really a mess. I hope he can get some good quality time in jail and sleep off the drugs. What a waste of human kind.
