Greensboro, N.C. — Dozens of figure skaters from across the state welcomed visitors to the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the Greensboro Coliseum Wednesday night.
Starting at 8:30 p.m., skaters took to the ice, performing routines that celebrate North Carolina's history and culture. The ceremony started with a tribute to the Wright brothers, NASCAR and ACC basketball.
After the opening ceremonies, skaters in the Junior Ladies Free Skate category competed. Haley Dunne, 17, of Raleigh, 7th in that competition and 8th overall.
The championships are the largest figure skating competition in the nation.
WRAL News anchor Pam Saulsby will perform the national anthem to kick off the final day of competition on Sunday.
