Ex-Bunn officer indicted on indecent liberties charges

Posted January 13, 2011

— A grand jury indicted a former Bunn police officer Monday on charges of taking indecent liberties with a minor, Police Chief Kent Winstead said Thursday.

James Newton Perry, 26, of 45 Gus McGhee Road in Bunn, was indicted on four counts of the offense, which court records indicate happened with a girl under age 16 between September 2008 and September 2009.

Perry was in the Franklin County jail Thursday under a $100,000 bond.

Winstead said that Perry was fired from the department in November following an internal investigation. The department turned the case over to the State Bureau of Investigation, which sent the case to the grand jury.

The alleged abuse occurred while Perry was off duty, Winstead said, but he declined to release more details about the case.

Court documents show no force was used in the alleged incidents but that alcohol was involved.

Perry had worked for the department from April 2009 until November 2010, the chief said.

I think he was doing a good job of ruining his OWN career long before this girl "fabricated" (as all of you GOLOers are claiming)these charges.

This is one reason I teach my children that they should never trust people from Bunn. All Bunn's are corrupt. (sarcasm off)

With all these bad LEO's running around and the SBI is as crooked as ever I wonder how much of that money that gets donated by honest civilians really goes to help the families of the LEO's as they claim or is that some other crooked method that needs investigating. One would think that all these good honest LEO's we keep hearing about would do the honorable thing and request an independant investigation just to bring some kind of honor back to law enforcement.

Don’t worry about Kent, he takes good care of his friends. When he was a Franklin County Sherriff’s Deputy he warned the White’s that Matt was being watched at the house on 51 Bunn Elementary School Rd. He was kind enough to let them know that Matt had better be a little more discreet about when & where he runs his business. It did finally get shut down when the youngest of the three daughters that grew-up there forced Norma & Mary to sell it to the Franklin County School System. Although they tried their best, even their Wake Forest attorney couldn’t prevent the sale. That’s ok, the hydroponic gardening continues elsewhere unabated!

Oh well. He knows the law and the punishment for violating it.

You dont need force if you have enough fear. Young girls may put on a grown up front, but I seriously doubt that they are ready to deal with a situation like this, especially if he talks about him being a cop at one time. This lands squarely on HIM. He should definitly have known better. And this business of having sex with someone you met at a party 15 minutes ago
    is insane.

MrGup...Do you know where the proceeds go to purchasing the "Thin Blue Line" stickers go? Or the meaning behind it? Yes you are right, a man has to respect himself before he dawns a badge and swears not to abuse it. I know...I have done that for 14 years and have never abused it. The day I go to work without the first priority being to help someone then I will hang the badge up. But do your research on the stickers...They go to a worthy cause......O and also the drug pushers put them on thier car also...So don't think if you have one it excempts you from the law........

Ok so i'm new on this GOLO thing but I see alot of people are too. Maybe because they know Perry well I know him also I went to school with him and was friends with him for a long time. But right is right and wrong is wrong. He went to school for 4 years and got a crimimal justice degree he knows better. He has a little girl of his own I dont think he would be happy if the same thing happen to his girl. Bottom line friend or not love him or not he needs to be punished. WRONG IS WRONG
