A grand jury indicted a former Bunn police officer Monday on charges of taking indecent liberties with a minor, Police Chief Kent Winstead said Thursday.

James Newton Perry, 26, of 45 Gus McGhee Road in Bunn, was indicted on four counts of the offense, which court records indicate happened with a girl under age 16 between September 2008 and September 2009.

Perry was in the Franklin County jail Thursday under a $100,000 bond.

Winstead said that Perry was fired from the department in November following an internal investigation. The department turned the case over to the State Bureau of Investigation, which sent the case to the grand jury.

The alleged abuse occurred while Perry was off duty, Winstead said, but he declined to release more details about the case.

Court documents show no force was used in the alleged incidents but that alcohol was involved.

Perry had worked for the department from April 2009 until November 2010, the chief said.

I think he was doing a good job of ruining his OWN career long before this girl "fabricated" (as all of you GOLOers are claiming)these charges.

Nothing but a bunch of loudmouths on here...Bunn PD is the best in Franklin County!

Snickers..you know thats supposed to be a good ol boys franklin county secret!

This is one reason I teach my children that they should never trust people from Bunn. All Bunn's are corrupt. (sarcasm off)

With all these bad LEO's running around and the SBI is as crooked as ever I wonder how much of that money that gets donated by honest civilians really goes to help the families of the LEO's as they claim or is that some other crooked method that needs investigating. One would think that all these good honest LEO's we keep hearing about would do the honorable thing and request an independant investigation just to bring some kind of honor back to law enforcement.
