Another armed robbery reported in Brier Creek

Around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, a man with a handgun approached the victim as he was getting out of his car at the Regal Brier Creek Stadium 14 movie theater at 8611 Brier Creek Parkway.

The suspect was described as a black male in his teens to early 20s with chubby cheeks and a short, stocky build. He was wearing a black puffy jacket and a black toboggan-style hat.

Raleigh police have not determined whether the case is related to four previous robberies in the area since September.

A family was robbed at gunpoint Dec. 14 as they were getting out of their car at the Pei Wei Asian Bistro in the 10000 block of Little Brier Creek Lane, Raleigh police said.

Surveillance photos taken at a convenience store in Durham show a man in a black jacket with brightly colored Mountain Dew logos on it trying to use one of the victim's credit cards.

On Sept. 25, a woman reported a purse snatching.

On Nov. 12 and Dec. 9, two shopping-center employees making business deposits at the Wachovia Bank at Brier Creek were robbed. A weapon was present in both cases.

Although the cases are similar, police cannot be sure the same person committed both robberies, Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Some shoppers said Thursday that the robberies have been a factor in them changing their plans to shop during the day.

“I am definitely double-checking that I lock my car, and we're keeping our doors locked at night and not really wanting to have a lot of cash on hand, just in case,” said employee Rachel Brown.

“I've been working out here two years, and I've felt like it’s always been a safe area for us to work in, but right now its been a little bit scary.”
