— A band teacher at a middle school near Roanoke Rapids is off the job and under arrest after allegations that he showed a pornographic video to students.

Archie Sheldon McLeod III, 51, of 174 Graystone St., Roanoke Rapids, was charged Tuesday with 11 felony counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor under the age of 16 and 11 misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

He was in the Halifax County Jail Tuesday afternoon under a $40,000 bond.

Investigators said McLeod, a band and chorus teacher at William R. Davie Middle School, showed the video to at least 11 students, ages 12 to 14, in a classroom during school hours on Monday.

Halifax County Schools spokesman Keith Hoggard said McLeod was placed on unpaid suspension Tuesday morning, pending the final outcome of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation.

Investigators became aware of the allegations after Robert Hester, an eighth-grader in McLeod’s class, used a cell phone to record McLeod playing the video on a laptop for students.

Hester said McLeod stopped showing the video when he realized he was being filmed.

Hester went home and told his mother, who reported the incident to school administrators.

"then the kid videotaped it to prove it.

How do you videotape from a cell phone?"

Simple. You just need an electrical engineering degree, a soldering iron, and a VCR.

oh no. celong said cut sports and music! sports and music are the only reason some kids go to school. there are so many kids who have to "keep their grades up" to play a sport. cuz mommy dont care. its that sport that gets them through math and reading. its the only positive reinforcment/insentive they have.

and then music just makes you smarter. every study ever done shows the benefits of music on kids. but i guess you didnt read that.

Sports and music directly help math and reading sink in. We NEED it. Some kids would not get it anywhere else...and would not get math and reading without it.

@ The Great Humungous Big phone? Not now days my lg slider ****** brand cell phone, thanks to a micro Minnie SD chip can record up to 3.5 hours of video. hang them all

Wow! So my learned golo-ite you totally missed it. I'll type real slow so try and keep up. Cell phones record by digital means, not by the use of video "tape."

    BTW, I have a ton of 8-tracks if you're interested. Call BR-549.

bear2010 - according to wtvd, the video is two adults in the act. They even post a link to the phone video in their story. I didn't want to watch it so I didn't click on it. Why don't you watch it and see if it is appropriate for 8th grade? I imagine NOT!

I still can't believe WRAL posted this child's name. The kid is in 8th grade and will now be bullied to no end by classmates! Good work on the responsible reporting! Glad it wasn't your child!

@ celong....the Arts are a very important part of a child's education and if taught properly can enhance and reinforce the basic curriculum. Art and Music are intertwined with all subject areas and teaching them from an early age on helps students learn better and creates a more well rounded person.

Want to cut some jobs, get back to reading, writing and math. Too many programs for middle schoolers anyway. Wait til high school for sports and music. That would save tons of money.
