Two arrested in slaying of Fayetteville store clerk
Washington, D.C., police arrested a man and woman early Sunday wanted in the killing of a clerk at a Fayetteville pawn shop. Kyle Harris, 19, was a 2009 graduate of Cape Fear High School.
Posted — UpdatedCedric Theodis Hobbs Jr., 29, and Alexis Mattocks, 20, are both charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kyle Harris. The pair also faces charges of armed robbery, second-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Fayetteville police said that the suspects shot Harris at the Cumberland Pawn Shop, 713 Grove St., around 5:15 p.m. Saturday and fled in his Saturn Ion.
Harris was a 2009 graduate of Cape Fear High School, and friends said he had been working at the pawn shop for more than a year.
Friends said that Harris was friendly to everyone he met and made people feel comfortable. Cape Fear High Principal Lee said teachers remembered Harris as "a good student, well liked by his peers and teachers."
Fayetteville police detectives went to D.C. Sunday to interview Hobbs and Mattocks. Extradition proceedings are expected to begin Monday.
D.C. police said that Hobbs and Mattocks were initially arrested for auto theft in the nation's capital. The two were also wanted for questioning in connection with a suspicious death in McDuffie County, Ga., early Saturday.
Fayetteville police said that Mattocks had her 9-month-old child with her at the time of the robbery. D.C. police took custody of the child.
