Roanoke Rapids man accused of trying to have sex with minors

Posted November 4, 2010

— A Roanoke Rapids man has been arrested three times since Tuesday for allegedly trying to have sex with seven underage girls, police said.

Police said that every time Kevin Johnson, 51, of 812 W. Fifth St., got out of jail, he called the girls again.

Police said they originally had one victim in the case, but since Johnson's arrest on Tuesday night, more have come forward.

Authorities said Johnson started courting a middle school-aged girl and was able to get her to bring some of her friends over. Once the girls, ages 12-15, were at his home, he would provide them with cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana and pills.

Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said in exchange for the stimulants Johnson wanted sexual acts.

A parent who realized what was happening contacted police.

Investigators have charged Johnson with 75 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and four counts of participating in the prostitution of a juvenile.

Johnson was released on a $5,000 bond after his Tuesday arrest. On Wednesday night, he was arrested again and released on a $10,000 bond.

Johnson was arrested a third time on Thursday. He was being held under a $1 million bond in the Halifax County jail.

On Thursday, police searched Johnson's home and retrieved several items, some of which were sexually explicit, they said.

Johnson's first court appearance was set for Dec. 15.

I live in Halifax County...somebody needs to find out who the judge/mag was......so he can start drawing unemployment. Bet...he already has a criminal record to boot, before this. This style of wrist slap is just crazy. 7 more had to come forward to boost to 1 million? What a joke!

Without the pot this would have never happened right? Funny you missed the alcohol, cigarettes, and "pills", maybe prescription. And you're worried about some pot? Hahahaha is right.

$5000 bail? What?! Wow what judge screwed that up?? That is beyond ridiculous and is disgusting. Maybe the judge is friends with the offender or something.

Can't say that my parents always knew where I was. I am almost 60 yrs old now. I had a stay at home mom and was afforded that by the way it was then. I cannot say that I would have known something was wrong if a neighbor had acted inappropriately at that time. I can say that when I was in high school, the OBGYN DR in Fayetteville that we saw was inappropriate with us. Scuba in the pool was not waht he said it would be.
